HARDENING
Hardening is about increasing the hardness, strength, toughness or durability of the steel to adapt it to its final use. Hardening and choice of method varies depending on whether it is structural steel, toughening steel, case hardening steel, ball bearing steel, automatic steel, stainless steel, tool steel or high-speed steel. These different steel grades consist of different alloy elements and their composition – which affects the hardening. Carbon is the most common element and most important for hardness when hardening.
The actual hardening of the material occurs by cooling in the process, usually in oil or gas, and the properties of the material are affected by how quickly the cooling occurs. Usually the hardness of the steel decreases the slower the cooling is. For maximum hardness when hardening, the material is switched off quickly, so-called forced cooling. Hardening with air cooling versus oil cooling can thus give the material different properties, even if the steel has the same chemical composition.

This is done through unique programs, often created uniquely for our customers and entirely based on their needs. We have our own calibration equipment and can thus carry out the necessary checks on the machinery – all to ensure the parameters of the hardening process.
